Yummy local Mexican-Salvadorian find!

Price:  $7-13

Food:  Mexican-Salvadorian cuisine is made just a few feet away from your table in this open diner-style cozy restaurant.  Everything is made fresh.  We had no idea what to order, and one of the two owners (both the sweetest ladies) gave us some suggestions.  I had a Horchata, which is a milk-cinnamon-chocolatey drink that’s sent from heaven.  They’re known for their pupusas, which are like thick tortillas stuffed with cheese and other goodness (beans, meat, or loroco).  We tried some of each kind.  Loroco is an edible flower, and those were our favorite.  We also tried the tamales and tacos, which were delicious!  The beans and rice are fabulous as well.  Oddly enough, there was a slaw-like side garnish which was very spicy–and was yummy enough to have as a meal itself.

Atmosphere:  The diner is very small, perhaps 5-6 tables.  It is very casual, and they also have take out available.

Service:  We’ve been a few times now and one of the owners (if not both) have always been there and wait on us.  They’ve offered different things for us to try and are eager to share their food and culture with anyone who will let them.  We will definitely be frequenting this place!

Tidbits:  Private parking.  There have been coupons on Restaurant.com for this place, if you’d like to try it out with a little less $ risk.  You’ll be back.  :)

Good Mexican & Cuban food in Wilton Manors

Price: Most plates were around $8

Food: Really good enchiladas, the cheese ones have an interesting but good sauce (not as much chili powder as we’re accustomed to).  The salsa was homemade and fresh-tasting.  The refried beans were good (I’m picky about them), but the rice was just so-so.  They also have ‘American’ foods if you have a picky eater in your group.  :)

Atmosphere: Fairly large restaurant, but has a ‘hole-in-the-wall’ feel.  The decoration was sparce and odd.

Service: The people here are very nice.  Our waitress was friendly, smiled alot, and did a great job.

Tidbits: Private parking.  This is a GREAT area right on the main street in Wilton Manors.  Grab something to eat and wander down Wilton Drive.

Good cheese enchiladas, soupy beans.

Price: $11-16

Food: The enchiladas were good (cheese was the best, the chicken suiza wasn’t good).  The refried beans were a soupy mess.  The salsa was pretty good.

Atmosphere: There is a nice patio area, but I’d choose a table away from the road if being within inches of Federal Hwy is concerning to you.  They have live music on some nights, and there was a large projection screen with techno videos on it.  The music/videos weren’t good, but very entertaining.  This is a gay bar on some nights, so bring an open mind.

Service: Our waiter was nice, but flaky.  He forgot portions of our order and sporadically checked on us.

Tidbits: Private parking.

Fantastic little tacos!

Price: Tacos $2.50, the rest of the food is a bit high-priced for Mexican fare, but worth it for the flavor & supporting a wonderful small business.

Food: Excellent, authentic Mexican food.  The tacos are small, open-faced, in corn tortillas served with fresh salsa & cilantro.  The chorizo is the best I’ve ever had (& I’m from Texas). Rice, beans, and cheese enchiladas are also fabulous.  They have a reach-in freezer with frozen Mexican icecream/popcicle things.  I haven’t tried them yet, but want to.

Atmosphere: Absolutely no atmosphere.  This is an incredibly small place with a couple tiny tables, so this is a take-out only joint.

Service: The couple that owns the place is incredibly nice.

Tidbits: Limited, private parking.  Food is made to order, so call ahead or be willing to wait a bit.  This place is a ‘Mom & Pop’ place, and the husband/wife couple are often there working.  Their English is a little rough, so be very clear with your order.
